Kelburn Castle, Ayrshire & Arran
Location: 2 miles south of Largs, KA29 0BE (map and directions)
Near Fairlie, North Ayrshire, Kelburn Castle is a large house which serves as the seat of the
Earl of Glasgow. Currently inhabited by the present Earl and his family, Kelburn Castle is one of the oldest
castles in Scotland, and it has been continuously inhabited by the same family longer than
any other castle in the country (Clan Boyle).

History of Kelburn CastleKelburn was first built in the 13th century and while the original keep forms
the core of the current structure, the castle was remodelled in the 16th century and again in
1700, this time giving it the appearance of a French chateau.
The land surrounding the castle is home to exotic gardens, trees, and Kelburn Glen, whose
waterfalls and gorges are some of Scotland’s most beautiful natural attractions. The castle
and its grounds make up the Kelburn Country Centre. The grounds are open to the public
from Easter through to early November, and the castle is open for guided tours at specific
times of year.
