Rowallan Castle, Ayrshire & Arran
Location: Kilmaurs, KA3 6JJ (map and directions) ![]() Rowallan Castle © WF Millar History of Rowallan CastleSaid to have been built in the 13th century, Rowallan was the birth place of Elizabeth Muir, the first wife of Robert II of Scotland. The Muir family counts many famous writers, historians, and composers in their family. Rowallan Castle then became home to the Campbells of Loudoun, in whose hands it remained until the 19th century, when a new Rowallan was built on the estate.
