History of Scotstarvit Tower

Scotstarvit Tower was built in the 16th century by the Inglis family and was purchased in the 1620s by Sir John Scot, author of the famously satirical 'Scot of Scotstarvit’s Staggering State of the Scots Statesmen', who eventually passed the castle on to the Wemyss family. The tower was abandoned in 1696.

Eventually, in 1948, the castle was sold to the National Trust for Scotland, and Scotstarvit Tower is today in the hands of Historic Scotland.
